Hello, Internet.
It's been a while. I know, I know, I haven't exactly been keeping up my end of our bargain - namely, that you provide me with trivia about background extras on TV shows, information about funding services, and M*A*S*H quotes, and in return I give you more than a crummy little update saying that I'm not frozen. Sorry, Internet.
It's just that I don't think you want to hear about my struggle with the cycle of dirty/clean dishes (How do I create so many dishes when Kara cooks dinner for me 5 nights a week?), why I let my laundry pile up until I am wearing heavy wool socks with a tweed skirt, or how I haven't had anyone in to fix the upstairs toilet even though I've been in my current house since September. I want to be interesting, Internet. I know you understand.
Be honest, Internet - would you still respect me if I told you that I watched 2.5 seasons of NCIS in one weekend while quilting? That the only times I got off the couch were to feed the woodstove or get another cup of tea? Because I've done that. (Sometimes the DVDs are different, but you get the drift.)
I did do one interesting thing in the last little while, though. I did an interview for Sharing Travel Experiences. Poor Andy - he sent me the questions in December, and it took me just short of forever to get them back to him. You know how I get, with the need for everything to be just so. The questions were easily answered, but I got hung up on the photos, and the longer I debated about the photos, the more embarrassed I was at how long it was taking. It was like a shame spiral.
But it's done, it's up, and I've had a number of people tell me they liked it, so I'm happy. And I was ordered by someone who is in the office frequently to get busy and update my blog, so this one's for you, Harold ^_^

Happy Discover Day!
So, to celebrate the Yukon, on the statutory holiday (Suck it, everyone in Ontario who gloated at me two weeks ago when I was at work and you were at a BBQ or the beach!), I got called over to the CRIC to meet with a lady from the Yukon Heritage and Museums Association. Hurray.
Seriously, I was ticked off. I was in my PJs, trying to work up the energy to put my painting clothes on and head over to the new place to do more painting (my arms and back hate me so much now), when S called to ask me to come over. I hadn't showered, because, really, what's the point when I'm just going to get sweaty and gross over at the new place? But I put on my Big Girl Panties and said I would be over in half an hour.
The upshot is that there is a bunch of funding available to us, so yay! There's a social media seminar coming up in Whitehorse in October, and I could get that paid for, which would be super. And I got a cup of coffee out of the deal - wooo!
It turns out that my painting pants aren't dry yet (I washed them last night because they were totally disgusting), so I am having lunch and watching a little SPN before I head over for more painting funtimes! Perhaps I will check out eBay for more saris for decorating purposes ^_^

Time doth fly
Goodness, is it Tuesday already? Where did the weekend go? Where did the time go?
My parents will be arriving in Whitehorse tomorrow. Tonight is a Council Meeting (hurray, hurray), so I will not have much time in the evening for doing the remainder of my cleaning. I have Kara's vacuum, so I guess that's what I'll be doing at lunch.
I'm excited for M&D to get here, and for my fuzzy mens (Rodney and Pakuchi) to finally be here. I'm excited about time off, although I think I will be coming to work on Friday anyway because of meetings (if so, I am taking a day in lieu after my parents go).
I need to chop more firewood at lunch. That'll be pretty - me in a sundress and Sketchers, wielding my trusty axe. Too bad no one will be around with a camera ^_^
The other reason I'm excited is that I enrolled in the Social Media course over at Tourism Currents to help me figure out how to use social media to help promote the town. I'm paying for it out of my own pocket, because I don't want to sit through endless meetings trying to explain why I think it's important.
The ladies who run the site are amazing - I was having trouble registering myself after I had paid, so I dropped an email off to their admin address. Within ten minutes, they had contacted me, fixed the problem, and thanked me for helping them fix the bug in their system. One of them even gave me her cell number in case there was a problem and I couldn't contact them by email. That, my friends, is a class act.
So, in the near future, I may be able to promote Faro to the max with mad social media skillz. Look out, Internetz!

My eyes are burning
I'm so sleepy today!
I've decided to put a notice in the next issue of the Town's newsletter that I am looking for suggestions on improvements to the Town's website - things people would like to see added/removed, updates on out-of-date information, and that type of thing. It's not just the Town Office's website, after all - it's supposed to be promoting the whole Town. (I can't seem to write Town with a small 't' any more, which is a direct consequence of my job.)
I'm thinking of putting some kind of survey up on the website itself (if I ever get a spare moment to figure out how to do such a thing), and perhaps that way I can start to get a inkling about how people feel about using Facebook/Twitter/social media to promote the Town.
But first, I have minutes to transcribe, final reports to write, and an updated schedule for the Crane & Sheep Festival to work out.
Good times!

Today, I am thinking ahead
I booked some time off to go to Whitehorse next week, to look at a car and do a big grocery shop, and GO TO A BOOKSTORE (seriously, I may have to be physically restrained from throwing books on the ground and rolling on them, a la Demi Moore on a pile of money in that movie whose title escapes me at present).
I am also looking at social media as part of my job - is there a way I could use Twitter/Facebook/Blogger to advertise/promote the Town? Is there potential for trouble? (This is Faro, of course there is potential for trouble ^_^)
I have been reading a lot of articles at Small Biz Survival, and every time I do, I get excited. There are so many things we could do to promote the town that wouldn't cost a lot of money...but I don't know how to do things, or how people would react.
Lots to think on, on a warm Monday in the Yukon.
